According to the Huni Kuin indigenous knowledge, Cumaru is a tree that does not rot, as it is – as they say – “very true”, or real as its one of the hardest woods available. It is also believed that it possesses the wisdom of many enchantments, its strength being associated with spiritual protection and the power to fight off the evil eye. Cumaru ash brings strength to snuff and is quite drying, so it’s very good for breathing problems, but less suitable for daily use. Cumaru is known to be a great medicine for concentration.

Indigenous people of the Huni Kuin tribe say that their name means the “True People” or “People with traditation”. This tribe, also known by the name Kaxinawa, lives in territories of Brazil and Peru. They are more numerous in Brazil with 7,900 members of the tribe living there. In Peru it is estimated that their total number runs to approximately 2,100 members. Hunting and fishing are among the most important men activities of this tribe. Women weave baskets, bead jewelry, create hammocks and clothing while Men carve tools from wood and make weapons, such as spears, bows and arrows.
